Freshening Tradition: A Kitchen and Bath Transformation
At Arcadia, every project begins with listening. For this kitchen and bathroom renovation, our designer Caitlin worked closely with the homeowners to preserve the character they loved while updating the spaces to feel fresh, functional, and timeless.
The clients had a strong sense of style and a deep appreciation for the farmhouse aesthetic. Rather than starting over, Caitlin refined the look—lightening cabinetry, maintaining the farmhouse sink, and refinishing the original wood floors. These decisions honored the home’s roots while softening and modernizing the overall feel.
Lifestyle played a central role in the design. The homeowners love to entertain, so expanding the kitchen’s footprint was a priority. By removing an unused breakfast table and replacing it with a peninsula, Caitlin created additional countertop space, added storage, and maintained seating for guests. The result is a kitchen that flows naturally during gatherings and feels both open and welcoming.
In the primary bath, Caitlin approached the design with the same mindset: rethinking the layout to achieve balance and beauty. The vanity was repositioned to face the entrance, creating a natural focal point. Shower walls were removed and replaced with glass, bringing light and openness to the space, while a private toilet room was introduced for comfort and discretion.
Our design process always begins with the big-picture decisions—layout, cabinetry, countertops—and then narrows to smaller details that bring a project to life. For this home, those details made all the difference. A playful mosaic tile was tucked behind the appliance garage to add personality without overwhelming the kitchen. In the bathroom, shifting the direction of the tile pattern in the shower gave the space subtle depth and distinction.
For us, this project represents what we value most: collaboration, thoughtful planning, and design that reflects the people who live in the space. Caitlin’s approach—beginning with the layout, then working from the major finishes down to the details—ensured that every choice aligned with the clients’ lifestyle and vision.
The finished kitchen and bath are more than refreshed spaces—they are a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, designed to be lived in, loved, and enjoyed for years to come.
